We changed the clocks this week making it feel like we entered a new ‘season.’

Most people I know are not happy about this change.

You feel like you missed the day because it is dark when you leave the office/shut down for the day.

It is getting colder.  The flowers are dead, trees are bare as leave finish falling.   Holiday stress is starting.  I am sure you can add more to this dreary list.

OR

You can view this as an opportunity for change!

We changed the clocks, what else are you going to change.

It is dark and cold when you end your day, so instead of an evening walk, how about trying a new class at the gym?

As a former gym rat, I know the closer we get to the holidays the less crowded the gym gets, so great time to try something new! Get a head start on that weight or exercise goal for 2022.

For many of us the gorgeous colors of summer and fall are fading, but that means, no yard work.  What will you do with the time you spent watering, weeding, mowing?

  • Try a new hobby?
  • Make time to catch up with friends?
  • Sample new holiday recipes?

It is easy to fall into draining habits this time of year- more time on the couch, more snacking, less exercise.

If this sounds familiar and you regret it every year!

STOP!

Recognize it and make a change!

Try these 5 tips.

  • Plan your week in advance.  It will be dark sooner so once you’re in Sunday night, look at your week, not just work, but everything including the weather!
    • If you want to try new recipes, pick a night to plan to make them.
    • Make sure you have the ingredients you need on the shopping list ahead of time!
  • Start making healthy habits you want for next year part of your routine
    • Try a new class at the gym or some other new form of exercise.
    • Put it on your calendar!
    • Remember, gyms are getting quieter this time of year so take advantage.
  • Plan things that bring you joy!
    • Do you have a night to have coffee or drinks after work?  Even if it’s virtual!
    • Plan it
  • Holiday shopping- dedicate a time to do it early!
    • Even if it’s online- block the time
    • Focus on the task so you don’t waste time scrolling around on line.
  • Look for fall and holiday activities to get you and your family out of the house.

This time of year, can get stressful, so it is even more important to have activities that bring you joy.

Every day, every week is an opportunity to make a small change to move you forward.  What are you going to do today?

Remember you do not have to wait for a new year, a new month or a new week to start.  You just need to make it a priority.

You are worth it!  Make yourself a priority!
